Successful Completion of a Webinar on Research and Its Importance to Take Challenge of 21st Century

It is our great pleasure to inform you that the Department of Textile Engineering successfully organized a webinar titled Research and Its Importance to Take Challenge of 21st Century on 26.06.21Around 60 students participated in the webinar.

In the keynote speech Dr. Rauful Alam, Sr. Scientist, PTC Therapeutic, New Jersey, USA highlighted the importance of research among young people to build a knowledge-based society and nation as well as to take the enormous challenge of 21st century in a very informal and intriguing manner. He started his speech talking about two landslide inventions of science: one is steam engine from 18th century and another is pasteurization from 19th century. These two inventions subsequently created the entirely new branch of science: thermodynamics and microbiology. Dr. Rauful focused the power of questioning things behind these two massive inventions of modern science. He further suggested our students to nurture their inquisitive minds. He also emphasized the importance of tangible ideas in the field of invention and innovation. He further mentioned some necessary skill sets for our students to be a competent researcher of 21st century.

After the keynote speech, there was a very lively question-answer session. Around 10 students inquired about various things regarding research activities at undergraduate level. Our keynote speaker highly appreciated the inquisitiveness of the students.

Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor, Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) was special guest of the session. In his long but very focused speech, he put emphasis on the fast-changing nature of scientific fields. He predicted more incorporation of ICT in the textile sector in near future. He suggested to remain up-to-date about various modern researches and inventions. He also mentioned about the rich research culture of Green University of Bangladesh and extended the answers of some of the questions of the students.

The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Nitai Chandra Sutradhar, Distinguished Professor and Chairperson, Dept. of Textile Engineering, Green University of Bangladesh. In his concluding remarks, he focused on the importance of research in the textile sector. He specially thanked the keynote speaker for his invaluable speech in a very lucid manner. Finally, he expressed his commitment to continue this type of session in future and direct the students towards advanced research and innovation.
